COVID-19 UPDATES

milkwell wants you to be well...

In light of the recent coronavirus outbreak around the world, as well as the limited information known about it, we wanted to offer a statement on how we are handling the issues.  We care about you, your health, your family and our community. Nursing parents continue to have needs and babies continue to need to eat and we all know that any breastmilk is important for immune function. We also want to be able to continue to provide safe, quality care to anyone who needs it.  We have always practiced excellent hygiene and cleaning but we feel it is important to let you know what we are currently doing to protect your health and that of our community.

Milkwell is now offering online HIPAA compliant tele-health/virtual consultations for all clients.  Aetna has released a statement that for 90 days starting March 6 they will be covering Global Telehealth services without prior authorization. Please consult with your insurance provider if you have questions about reimbursement for your Global Telehealth services.

Telehealth can take place in the comfort and security of your own home requiring you to only need a computer or cell phone with internet access, good reception and a tripod or a second person around to hold the camera while you are feeding your baby.  Telehealth will allow us to go over your concerns, assess feeding, pumping, flange fitting, milk supply, and so much more. The visit duration of the appointment as well as the fee will be shortened and there will be limitations on the physical exam of both parent and baby.  You will still receive electronic documentation/care plans and medical receipts or superbills through Milkwell’s patient portal as always.

While everyone has the option to utilize the telehealth services within the practice, it is currently the only option available for Prenatal and all Follow Up Visits including Pumping, Return to Work, Complementary Foods, and Weaning Consultations.

Milkwell is drastically limiting in-person consultations to only those who have birthed in the last month and NEED in person help due to weight gain concerns, damaged nipple or breast tissue and painful latch and Milkwell Is only offering in-person visits for your first visit. All other issues not listed above should be scheduled for a Telehealth visit.  All Follow Up Consultations for the foreseeable future will take place via Telehealth for the rest of March 2020 and possibly longer as community safety dictates.

Milkwell’s office suite is taking social distancing very seriously.  We have limited the number of providers who are in office at any given time to two.  This means there will be no interns for the remainder of March 2020 or longer as safety dictates.  We also do not want anyone having to wait in the reception area at any time. Milkwell’s exam room is small and the recommended 6-10 feet for social distancing between more than two adults is not possible. Please do not bring anyone other than baby with you for your appointment.  If you need to bring a support person/partner with you, we ask that the support person/partner wait in the car.

Please do not schedule an in-person visit if you are or recently have been sick, if anyone in your family in close contact with you is or recently has been sick or if anyone has traveled recently.  Please do not expect an in person visit if you have a fever or active cough.

Regarding hygiene, Milkwell uses antimicrobial wipes to wipe off all doorknobs, light switches, neonatal scale, exam table, drawer pulls, nursing chair, desk, and all devices prior to and after all visits. Your lactation consultant will also wash her hands prior to, during (if necessary), and after all consultations.

We understand that this is a confusing time on top of learning to care for your little one and struggling with feeding.  We want to continue to provide you with care you deserve. Thank you for trusting us.  Be well.
